About Me

------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------Dave Lear has been on the NYC music scene since the mid-90's, most notably as the lead singer of the alt-country band The Humbuckers. In 2005, Dave recorded his first solo album, "Mr. Sunshine", leaving country-rock behind for an intimate, white-soul sound that is much more reminiscent of his Philadelphia roots (to purchase "Mr. Sunshine", go to www.davelear.com ). He is also a prolific songwriter, and currently Dave and his music are being featured prominently in a documentary on the MSG channel in New York called "Mecca of Boxing" (click here for a preview). In August, Dave will release his next solo album, titled "Sweet Science," for No Mas Records, with songs from the MSG documentary. Look for it at www.nomas-nyc.com . The video above is an outtake from "Mecca of Boxing" in which Dave performs "The Golden Gloves," a song that will appear on "Sweet Science."

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.davelear.com
Band Members: Dave plays solo, in an acoustic trio, and with a full electric band.
Influences: Dave's influences are broad. From the obvious - Springsteen, Van Morrison, Dylan - to the less so - Curtis Mayfield, The Chambers Brothers, Leo Kottke. Recently Dave's sound has leaned towards quiet acoustic with a Brazilian feel.
Sounds Like: Dave's first solo album, "Mr. Sunshine", is most often compared to Springsteen and Elvis Costello. Van Morrison, the Rolling Stones, and even Curtis Mayfield also get mentioned now and then. Dave's new album, "The Sweet Science," is a strange project, but one very organic to his interests - a collection of ten short, spare folk songs that all in some way or another reference boxing.
Record Label: No Mas Records
Type of Label: Indie
