THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL SITE, IT IS A SITE SET UP BY A FAN (TEAM STEVIE) FOR FANS. Postcard Records of Scotland was set up in Glasgow in 1979. Their slogan "The sound of young Scotland" was borrowed from the legendary American label Motown who had used the slogan "The sound of young America" back in the late 1950's/early 1960's. There was also a healthy punk/new wave music scene in Scotland during the late 1970's which ran along side the more publicised scene that exploded out of London at the same time. Bands including The Fire Engines, TV Art, The Associates, Josef K, Scars and The Nu sonics (who later changed their name to Orange Juice) were regularly playing the local gig circuit and such bands were also begining to release records too. Postcard Records originally existed for less than two years before it simply faded into obscurity. The label had a stable of just four artists - Orange Juice, Josef K, The Go Betweens and Aztec Camera, they released under fifteen records between them but despite the brief period of existence, a few things can not be denyed, the label were one of the archetypal indie labels, releasing 7" singles in wrap around sleeves, poly bags and inserts which many a label were quick to adopt and the label left behind some of the finest pure indie-pop music which influenced
many that followed.Just as curious as the original fade into obscurity was the re-surfacing of the label eleven years later in 1992 for another brief period of just over three years, this time the label had a stable of five artists - Paul Quinn and the Independent Group, Orange Juice (in order to issue unreleased tracks and a compilation of the Postcard singles), ex Fire Engines man Davey Henderson in his new band The Nectarine No. 9, ex Subway Sect punk rocker Vic Godard and Jock Scot. If history repeats itself agian we are due for the third coming of Postcard Records, stranger things have happened!!! **********PLEASE SEE BLOG FOR DISCOGRAPHY AND PHOTOS FOR SLEEVES**********
