Amalek started around June 2005, when a few months before a local band named Padded Cell had broken up. A bass player named Ben proposed the name Amalek to Dor, Padded Cell's vocalist. Along came Erez and Tal Ludman - drummer and guitar player respectively, both from Padded Cell; and Itamar, the second guitar player.
The band spent the first month writing their first song Indifference in Guitar Pro, with Itamar handling most of the composition and arrangement. Their first rehearsal was at Erez's house, on a very hot and uncomfortable day. Until December that year, the band had completed approximately 3 songs - Indifference, Overwound and Amalek. All three were worked on intensively by Itamar with help from Dor, Ludman and Erez.
On January 2006 the band decided to part ways with Ben due to personal differences. Itamar then posted a Wanted Ad on an online message board. By pure luck, Tomer, a bass player from Petah Tikva, saw the ad and was interested by the fact that Amalek play Death covers. Tomer came to a rehearsal and was immediately accepted - he had a natural talent and fitted with the band perfectly.
