The people I already know I like on a more regular basis... or a mermaid carrying a quiver full of stingray spine-tipped arrows and a crossbow. That would be pretty cool too.
Most up-to-date list: Tom Waits, The Fall, MASTODON!, Slayer, Priest, Pre-MTV ZZTop, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Guided by Voices, Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, X, King Crimson, The Stooges, B.O.C., Minor Threat, Fugazi, MC5, Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, Pavement, Zappa, Os Mutantes, Rush, Queen, the Pixies, Television, a whole gaggle of others, I'm sure.
Pan's Labyrinth defeats all others! (But it only beats Children of Men by the narrowest of margins) Beyond those 2, there hasn't been anything that qualifies as a favorite in a number of years. Anything sci-fi or concerning the dark future of humanity will suffice (both, you say? even better!).
The Daily Show and Colbert Report are all I really make it a point to tune in for. Star Trek (any) and Law & Order (any except "Criminal Intent") when they're on (which, in the case of L&O, is any damn hour of the day!)
Authors in general: Philip K. Dick (current fav!), Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein, George Orwell, China Mieville, David Sedaris, probably some more. Books in particular: Catch 22, All Quiet on the Western Front, A Confederacy of Dunces, Breakfast of Champions, God Bless you Eliott Rosewater, A Canticle for Liebowitz, The Martian Chronicles, Perdido Street Station, Childhood's End, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, On the Beach, probably a whole lot more... alright, Harry Potter kicks ass too.
My parents and people with shitty jobs.
