"Raised on Pong" is the debut full-length cd from indie/pop group Glow Stars. The band is the creative vehicle for songwriter Tom Hunt as the cd features 11 Hunt originals. 'Raised on' Long Island, Tom moved to Hoboken, NJ and formed the epically underappreciated trio, the Pontoons. Their first single was praised by Billboard magazine as the indie debut of the year. Because of this review and others like it, the Pontoons moved up from their regular Monday night slots to Tuesday nights and swore it was only a question of time until they were huge. Unfortunately, ongoing fights with record labels (does no unsolicited material ring a bell?) eventually wore the band out, and they decided to go their own ways. With nothing left to live for, Hunt packed up one day and moved west to get some sun and fresh air. After hearing more String Cheese Incident than anyone should have to endure in their lifetime, he decided to forgo the local music scene and retreat to his bedroom to entertain himself. Soon he was writing songs again and decided to form a band full of like minded musicians, which left him solo. He named this effort Glow Stars because of the mysterious coincidence that every room he rented had them pasted to the ceiling. Three rules for this band were agreed upon; 1. The Glow Stars will never join Myspace. 2. The Glow Stars will never purposely sing off key to attract college radio listeners, and 3. The Glow Stars will never wear suits."Raised on Pong" is the culmination of recordings made by Hunt over the course of a year. Fans of Conor Oberst will appreciate very little about it. It was recorded on an analog 8-track machine either at night, on a day-off, or whenever the neighbors seemed to be out.
