Is an Underground Hip-Hop Hybrid known for his witty punchlines and vivid lyricism. Emerging as of early 2005, with the creation of his independent record company Warfare Records and Steelrain Productions, NEM ONE has gone on to create a new sound for the Central Valley(California). Using intricate rhyme patterns and vocab precision to display the most rawest sound as of late, he has gotten a lot of love from fans all over the World. In addition, he understands that rhyming is an effective, yet powerful, art-form, so NEM ONE's main objective is to set the bar for conscious emcees everywhere. Therefore, he spears "The Reality Musick Movement." A movement that is dedicated to make music that the average person can relate to.
He was born Edgar A. Villarreal in Rio Grande City, TX spending most of his childhood living in the dangerous state of Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas(Mexico) during the 1980's. At age 9, his family made the move that would undoubtedly change his life by moving to Modesto, CA. Although he was brought to the United States in late 1990, his family still struggled to survive but slowly showed signs of improvement. Later in 1993, he began to listen to hip-hop mainly influenced by Dr. Dre and Death Row Records. After time, he began to watch one of the most missed shows on MTV "Yo, MTV Raps" were he began to see that there were many different styles of rhyming.
To pass the time, NEM ONE spent a lot of time in South Side Modesto at a Youth Recreational Center known as the Red Shield(Salvation Army) to avoid the influence of local gangs. This marks the place were he first encountered two amateur emcees freestyling against each other. He was so amazed by the quickness these people had to possess to counter each other that he jumped in and attempted to flow. Although he was severely beaten lyrically by the two emcees, he spent the following summer studying the art-form. He went from listening to old-school rap with Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five to the latest and saw the evolution. After getting the facts and understanding the Hip-Hop Culture more, he began to critique rappers and see how they put their words together. But it wasn't until "Wu-Tang Forever" that he began to write his own lyrics. Mainly influenced by East-Coast rap at the time, he began to show signs of improvement and dedication. By the age of 16, he was performing at local hip-hop events and house parties under the rap name DMGR(Damager), mostly at B-Boy events hosted by the Maddox in West Side Modesto.
But a change of fate came in early 2000, when NEM ONE joined the Service. He joined the United States Marine Corps. In which he went on to serve two combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. It was September 11, 2001 11:00 pm in Australia when he got the call. Simultaneously in the United States it was around 7:30 in the morning Pacific Time when the Twin Towers went down. Two weeks later at age 19, NEM tasted the adrenaline of war and was struck by it. Nevertheless, he worked hard to stay in shape and to master his weapon system-so he was confident in his survival. After gaining experience in a combat zone, it was up to him and his colleges to teach the new cycle how to become effective in those types of situations. Eventually, he served a second tour in Iraq. Which was much of the same. After a long four and a half years he was released by the Marine Corps (Honorably) and has since pursued a career as an emcee.
Learning from a lot of his friends in the military, NEM ONE got the opportunity to clash styles with different kinds of emcees. He flowed with cats from The South, The East-Coast, The Midwest, and various Emcees from the West Coast. He became extremely dedicated and stuck to his daily routine to write rhymes whenever possible. He attended clubs joints to flow and battle against local L.A. and San Diego Emcees to win most of his encounters... And got the chance to freestyle in front of a crowd of 400 in Kenya, Africa.
In 2007, NEM ONE is currently working on the much-anticipated "Hip-Hop Survival Mixtape" coming out '07. He's been doing local shows, rockin the crowd, getting his name out to the people. He has gotten much recognition and respect for his contribution to 209 Hip-Hop. And the rest is history in the making...
