About Third World Riders (3WR) the Unemployed Alcoholics: Third World Riders, whom we are seeking Licensing for their debut album, Products of Circumstance, are the first group under our label. The crew has been together for the past two years and consists of three members: Michael Ahiable a.k.a Cone (22), Pheku Phira a.k.a Blasphemy (25) and Khumbulani Nebe aka Maradona (22).
The first single, Hell is Home, of the forthcoming album, Products of Circumstance, of which a video has been shot, has received favourable reviews and has enjoyed rotation from regional and national radio stations, Metro FM, Nqubela FM (Port Elizabeth), Bush Radio, Goodhope FM, RMR (Rhodes) and Radio Grahamstown. The single has also been played on international radio stations, Unam FM (Namibia), Fya FM (Brixton, UK). The crew has also received some media coverage from the Sowetan Entertainment section, front headlines on Grocotts Mail (Grahamstown), Africas Gateway online. Third World Riders have also appeared on the August/September issue of Hype magazine, which is the only Hip-Hop magazine in the country, and the single was also in the compilation of the same issue. Further, Cone is interviewed in a battle article, which appeared in the October/November issue of the Hype magazine.
The crews most outstanding achievement has thus far been the inclusion of their freestyles on the UK based, Terriegunz's Kunta Kinte Volume 2 Mixtape, hosted by DJ Storm. DJ Storm is a disc jockey at Fya FM. His mixtape includes Hip-Hop notables from the US such as Slum Village, Baby Bam of Jungle Brothers and the most popular African Hip-Hop artist based in Germany, Metaphysics of Acropolis Records. As a result of our inclusion in Kunta Kinte Volume 2, Third World Riders have secured a clothing deal with his UK based Kunta Kinte clothing label. They have also appeared in two local mixtapes; Down n Out, Landmynez and Hiphopcolypse Mixtapes.
The crew has built a solid reputation and following over the past two years, both as a collective and as individuals. Maradona is the best known member of the crew as he gained his notoriety in the late nineties in the Yfms Rap Activity Jams. Cone who is a Ghanaian national and has been in the country for the past three years has earned his stripes by winning two consecutive battles against Snazz-D and Gemini, both members of the award winning group Cashless Society.
The debut project, Products of Circumstance, has already been completed with 20 Tracks, which feature Snazz-D and X-Amount of Cashless Society, and two underground artists Pino and Skeptik, whom we hope we can add to our label roster in the future when finances permit.
The contents of the album, Products of Circumstance, are informed by lived experiences. The album provides a candid glimpse into the lives of societys dregs. It captures the experiences and energies of marginalised and disenchanted black youth in post-industrialised spaces. Most importantly, the album celebrates and legitimises the lives of the forgotten. This 20-track album, which was recorded in five months, has guest appearances from X-Amount and Snazz-D of Cashless Society, Pino from the 38 Clique and the rhyme wizard Skeptic. The song Trapped has received favourable reviews from the radio station Fixit based in Brixton, London in the UK. It has also climbed to the top 20 in La Rhapsody radio station based in Nice, France.
We would appreciate support for this single as the whole project, Products of Circumstance, which we believe to be of high quality, has been completed under trying circumstances, thus the title of the album.
