DJ Kronik

About Me

Kronik first got into mixing at the age of 17. At first he wasn't really into the dance music scene, he played the guitar and was in a band for a while. He was more into the live music scene and didn't really have much time for rave music. But at the back end of 1992 he heard a mix tape that changed everything. It was DJ Sy at Obsession, he listened to it over and over, gripped by the edgy and uplifting vibe and amazed at the scratching sounds that Sy was producing. He was inspired. It wasn't long before he put down the guitar and took to the decks. He was fortunate that at the time his Brother was already into the whole rave scene and had bought himself some Technics decks, albeit they were belt drive. He used his brothers records to learn beat matching and scratching. It wasn't long before the belt drives were upgraded to 1210's, and all the while his skills were getting tighter. He also experimented with music production at a friends makeshift studio (bedroom!).Soon he was buying as much vinyl as he could afford, and has bought and played many styles through the years, ranging from Hardcore, Drum & Bass, House etc, playing at events that friends had arranged or getting slots at illegal raves out in the middle of nowhere!! His first big break came in 2000 playing UK Garage, where he became resident at Emotivo @ Club M in Newmarket and played alongside the likes of EZ, DJ Luck & MC Neat and Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown. He then became resident at Fusion @ Summit in Wisbech, again playing with headline DJ's (even Nick Slater from the Drumattic Twins!). He then got a residency at a club night hosted by Timmi Magic from The Dreem Teem of which his highlight was being on the same line up as MJ Cole. However, the UK Garage scene started to go stale, and he looked for something new, something fresh. Then he heard the crazy sounds of the Plump DJ's and there was no going back!! To him, Breakbeat was the way forward. Chunky beats coupled with fat basslines, and lashings of innovative squeaks and bleeps have been the order ever since. In 2003 he got a PC, purpose built for music production. He has constantly been writing tunes from then onward, and his production skills have improved with each track. Of course he kept up the DJing, and in 2005 he got a residency with the award winning online radio station 'Breaks FM'. MyGen Profile Generator
