About Me

More about me? I'm Beck.
Rebekah if you are yelling at me...
Bekkah if you are being cuddly.
I'm a graphic designer... with a passion for seeing the world put to rights.
I love Jesus and I choose to follow his path in my life.
I like beautiful things: textures and sounds and smells ...things that engage our senses, rather than just our logic.
I love Hong Kong.
I think too much, generally.
I play guitar and sing... although not particularly well.
I often see the divine in the mundane... and I enjoy pursuing the divine in my everyday life.
I love my cats, despite the fact that they are mischievous.
I like my spirits straight up and my wine red.
I love my boyfriend very much, even though we are a little unconventional.
I probably add too much salt to everything.
I like to think that I am as defined and shaped by my community of friends now as I was by my family.
I love The Doctor...
...My Theological WorldView...
I scored as "Emergent/Postmodern". And I'd have to say that it was no big surprise! They tell me I feel alienated from older forms of church, that I don't think they connect to modern culture very well.
And I reckon that's pretty spot on... No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. Street-evangelism bothers me. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so people of faith should journey with them.
What's your theological worldview?

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'd love to meet... other people who love Jesus but don't fit in the box...
I'd love to meet Joss Whedon, but I'm afraid that I'd have nothing intelligent to say!

Music:

Its too diverse to dot-point out...
I like Missy Higgins, but also the odd bit of Rob Zombie...
I like Vineyard worship music and POD...
I listen to Triple J radio and love the Hilltop Hoods and Common live...
but I treasure my Jeff Buckley CDs.
I LOVE acoustic singer/songwriter stuff.. like Josh Pike, Leonardo's Bride and the Waifs, but I also like The Butterfly Effect and Karnivool. Go figure.

Movies:

Serenity (long live Joss The Matrix movies (all three and the Animatrix Equilibrium And asian cinema, like: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon House of Flying Daggers Hero Fearless...

Television:

Firefly
Doctor Who
Torchwood (although it's a bit of a let down, half-way through the season...)
Battlestar Galactica
Angel
Babylon 5
Stargate quote of the week: "If you'd been *listening*, you'd know that these Nintendos pass through everything... Ever-y-thin-g." (Jack, talking about neutrinos.)

Books:

I'll read almost anything.
Big fan of Matthew Reilly, and in a juxtaposition, Jane Austen :D...
Just read the whole Diana Gabaldon saga (which was very good) and typically (have you noticed my pre-dilection for juxtapositions?) I have a number of Robert Ludlum books on my shelf.
I have just read the Halo quadrulogy, which was highly entertaining, and I have embarked on 'Minority Report' by Philip K Dick, which is proving to be better than Tom Cruise led me to believe!
I would HIGHLY recommend a book called Soul Cravings, which is excellent...

Heroes:

Well, my BDH is Joss... how could he not be? The man is a genius - Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, the funny parts of Toy Story... genius! but I love Jackie Pullinger, who is more of a hero in the true sense. I can rant about her for a long time. In fact... I may just have to post a blog so that I don't clog up the front page!

My Blog
