About Me
“Big Frost†was born in December of 1988 in Chicago, Illinois, but the majority of his influence came from the west coast, having moved there in his early years. Unlike today’s notorious west coast rappers, Frost is about peace, not war, and self expression over everything. “The thing I enjoy about my music is that it’s real. It’s inspired by real events, and it talks about real issues.†said Frost during a fan interview, “Yeah I may make a fight song or club track every once in a while, but my music is usually always down to earth. I’m going to say what I wanna’ say despite what people think of me. I don’t care if it offends people, I don’t care if they listen to it; it’s my way of expressing myself, and if they don’t like it, they can get off my page or throw away my CDâ€
Frost’s name originated in his early high school years as a derogatory comment aimed at him and his writing for being one of the only Caucasian students in the mainly Black/Hispanic school. “It’s all because I was the only white kid in the school†remarked the now 20 year old rapper, â€It started out as a racial slander and I turned it into a trademarkâ€.
Frost’s poetry and writing stems from a much larger background then just his high school years; “Poetry was always my escape, even before I started rapping, my notebook was pretty much the only thing I could talk to growing up, and I never really thought of it as a career, just something to get stuff off my chest.†explained Frost, “I mean the little poetry I let people read I actually won awards for, but I still thought it was missing something, and one day, I found a beat and knew that was the keyâ€.
Over the span of his 3 overall CD’s, Frost has written hundreds of songs, but only few were released. His entire album “The First Plane Home†was never even heard by the public because he believed it was too personal and that it it should remain private, so it still exists to this day in only his possession. The aim of Frost’s music is different from most of the rappers in existence today, focusing on reality rather than fantasy, and emotions rather than money. “If I’m feeling relaxed and chill, I’ll write a song about hanging out and relaxin’ and it’ll have a nice smooth beat…if I’m feeling sad and depressed, I’ll write a song about what’s on my mind… if I see something in the streets that bothers me, I’ll write about it†said Frost, “and you can see the evidence of that in my musicâ€.
Frost originally began transforming his poetry into lyricism in early 2006, after a 3000 mile move from Los Angeles, California, to Bradenton, Florida. ‘Florida gave me the chance to be me, without having to worry about the streets not likin’ it†said Frost, “and with that, I got to develop into my own person, and express myself without having to worry about getting shot over itâ€. In the summer of 2008, Frost moved back to Los Angeles on his own, and plans on continuing his music throughout his collage years. Although he doesn’t plan on making a career out of it, he intends to to stick with it. “I'm going to keep pumping out tracks as long as I can hold a pen,†Remarked Frost, and with his recent breakthrough, one thing is for certain: the music will keep coming.
