CURRENTLY, through Sept. 12, 2008, we are soliciting excerpts from original plays written by playwrights residing in Florida. Please see our blog for further information.ALSO: Auditions for ANYTHING GOES, the Cole Porter musical, will be held in early September, by appointment only. Auditionees will be asked to sing 16 bars from an upbeat song and 16 bars from a ballad. Watch this space for further information! (Production dates are Oct. 17-26, 2008.)AND: before those auditions, we are going to hold an audition workshop, Thursday, August 28, at 7 PM. More details to follow.Four major productions are presented each season, with variety and educational opportunities for both students and audiences driving the selection of plays. Recent productions have included major musicals, avant-garde plays, classical drama, contemporary Broadway hits, and favorite revivals. Valencias theater program also sponsors an annual competition among playwrights who reside in Florida. We solicit never-before-produced manuscripts each fall, which are read and evaluated by a committee of readers. One script is selected, and after extensive workshopping with staff, students and writer, is presented as a fully staged production in the Black Box Theater.

Audiences and interested volunteers! Students interested in Acting/Theater! You do not have to be a theater major to participate in productions at VCC. So if you did theater in high school but don't want to make a career of it, please come by (East Campus, Building 3, Room 105) and chat!
