The Swigs purvey an energetic buzzed fusion of rock 'n roll, "ambient, psychedelic, drifting and strange", "oozing cool in a way that's hard to put your finger on" (Subcity Radio, Glasgow, UK). Showcasing the song-writing, enthusiastic performance, and guitar artistry of founder, Kevin Henderson, the brilliant quicksilver bass attack of Eric Snyder, and the powerhouse drum chops of Blaine Rybke, the Swigs deliver an aural/visual hit/shot/blast to merry punters around the world, who love and enjoy it.
"Whether playing acoustic or electric, Henderson proves his mettle, producing a fevered sound that at times recalls the folk, pop, country, blues, prog rock and jazz of musical progenitors Jeff Beck, Sandy Bull, Steve Howe, Bill Nelson and Leo Kottke, among others." -- Gene Armstrong, Tucson Weekly, 12/27/2007
The history of this band goes back to the US punk scene of the mid 80's, and features a cast of characters from the Tucson music scene, then and now. Dorian Cacavas and Kevin wrote the early songs. The early history can be viewed at sapientrecords.com in its unbelievable infamous glory.
Kevin catalysed the Swigs as a proper rock band in 2006, with Chris Davidson and Adam Fleishman, and began writing/assembling the material that makes up the set today. With Mark Witt, Trevor Tanzillo, and current drum heavyweight Blaine Rybke, he found the perfect band, live and in the studio, to carry heavy music into unknown territory. We are currently driving inebriated tanks to weird victories and putting up flags.
The live shows are something else. Something a little like this:
