..5For Solo music began with a huge jazz influence. With his Father being a big jazz fan and ex bass player Solo grew up hearing a lot a of trumpet musicians like Norman Brown and Miles Davis. It was not only hearing this music but seeing his fathers’ reaction that made him want to find this connection between music and feeling. At 10 he began playing the trumpet and quickly found out it would take a lot of time and effort to get to the level he wanted to be at. He studied the Trumpet for four years before replacing his trumpet for a microphone. He found a love for hip-hop. Hours went into practice each day, but without to means to record until ’98 this is the best place to begin the story. In ’98 when equipped with a pc he began to make music with his brother and cousin. Using any hip-hop beat available they began to make music. This gave Solo his first look into recording and band dynamics. The group were together for two years before they decided to stop recording and pursue other things. He then began work with another group, Parana. An old school friend already had a producer on the team and needed rappers. Solo accepted and they began to work. They would practice over instrumental CD’s and record their efforts onto tape. They soon amassed over 100 tapes which today some still remain unheard. Their new producer had set up a studio in Finsbury Park London this studio was soon renamed to Parana Palace. The team of three soon turned into five with another rapper and producer becoming involved. They began to record night after night, sometimes ending up at the studio until the morning. Solo soon was given the nickname Solo ‘one-take’ as that was all it took to get his verse down. This was not the case with the others and this soon began to cause a problem. The producer wanted quicker work but all were working at the pace they wanted. There soon became confusion over the direction of the group and with no-one really in charge communication soon broke down and Solo’s second group break up soon followed.Solo then hurriedly made contact with every producer and beat maker he knew but still had no where to record. With no other option but to start his own studio this is what he did. With some equipment he had at home he set up a studio in Barbican renamed to HMS Parana. Solo taught himself how to engineer and mix as there was on one else that could do it at the time. He soon began to get to grips with engineering and again they began to make music. This studio was home to hits such as Addicted, Parana Hits and Big Bad Bruce. They were making good music but had take it to the people and perform. Finding shows to perform at were not a problem, getting everyone to turn up and turn up on time was. The most memorable show remains to be their performance at Pop (London). Arriving three hours late, missing sound check to be told they were to go straight on did not stop them from giving a great performance and being asked to perform again when the other acts had finished. Time went by and they continued to make music but lacked any real direction and funds. Creative differences soon became a reoccurring problem, with no leader or boss members had no reason to listen to anyone else’ ideas so they didn’t. Less and less music came out of the studio.Solo was then introduced to another producer who had a studio in Holloway, Jekyll & Hyde. They began to work immediately. On his first time at the studio they recorded four tracks and continue to make music today. The Solo/Jekyll & Hyde combination is responsible for many tracks including Belly Dancer, Somedays and How. Work continued steadily with Jekyll & Hyde which left the other studio almost un-used as when Solo was not there nobody else was able to engineer. A vital moment for the group was a show in Clapton which didn’t go to plan. Forgotten lyrics and poor vocals left Solo wondering if everybody else was as serious as he was about the music. Not long after then the group broke-up and Solo went solo.Working with all the producers he had contact with over the years he began work on this first solo album. He re-mastered some tracks from the Parana days, used some Jekyll & Hyde tracks and recorded new tracks at his new set-up St. Georges Studio (London). It wasn’t long before he had enough for an album. The unreleased Parana mixtape was suppose to be called Swimming In The Deep, Solo decided to keep it as a tribute to work previously put in.With the tracks ready Solo began work on the album artwork. He designed and created all the artwork himself then had them printed. That was then, which brings as to now. First album completed, ready to promote.Solo continues to stay focused and make music, coming through two group break-ups to go solo he still works very hard getting his music heard. Preferably very loud.
