My name is Sean Kvox. People just call me knox. I love 2 snowboard whenever and wherever possible, skate, and hang out with friends. At the weekend i play ice hockey and steward at the local ice rink. Also board at the dry slope, which is 70 miles away!
BUT I LIVE TO SHRED!
So i'll more or less do anything or go anywhere just to ride!
I enjoy friendly company! And will listen to anybody and to what they have to say about anything.
Thats me!Heres a Top Tip for anyone who wants to try snowboarding.Wanting to try it, but your pockets not deep enough? No problem! Just a few surprisingly short minutes spent searching the house, garage or garden can turn up all the stuff u need. Need a flash board, boots and bindings? a pair of wellies glued to an ironing board works just as well at a fraction of the cost. (remember to fix both wellies to the same side of the board and dont get the L and R boots crossed over. that had me for a while, i can tell you!)
dont waste your hard-earned dosh on pretentious designer gear like beanie hats and goggles. No! you can't go far wrong with a snug tea cosy and wrapping cellotape round yor head several times! Use a marker pen or matchpot to daub the snazzy logos of your choice. i've found scissors and duct tape can transform cement bags, shower curtains and carpet off-cuts (rubber side outwards, of course) into perfectly good snowboard coats and pants. no ensemble would be complete without a pair of marigolds or some gardening gloves.
So you've got the gear, now your ready to start snowboarding.
Finding a mountain with excellent powder need not be a major concern. for the boarder on a budget there is an alternative. for the novice i suggest starting of from the coffee table and progressing, via the back of the sofa, to the window ledge to get that big air feeling. as your confidence grows try some modest flips, grabs and rotations. Soon you'll be flinging yourself off the mantle-piece like a pro.
A staircase makes a superb downhill run. A few well placed pillows and cushions make adequate moguls and snowdrifts, but scrunched up duvets are better if you can get them.
As your skill increases you're going to want to expand your repertoir and you'll hear that half pipe calling. Not to worry, it's what bathtubs were made for! i recommend dropping in from the end opposite the taps as there's a tendancy to slope down this way and you get a full run. (if your bath is somewhat different from standard you'll have to try different drop-ins till you find out what works best for you.) you are however, going to need more specialised equipment here as an ironing board lacks the manouvering and flexible qualities required.
But wait! Dont splash out! try screwing a pair of trainers to a tea tray. Reduce friction by rubbing a soft graphite pencil over the base of your board. Alternatively, part fill the tub with marbles or ball bearings. (Remember to put the plug in first they're off at the first whiff of freedom!)
If the half pipe is not your thing, perhaps you want longer runs? If so,It's finally time to leave the house (it's in a bit of a mess now anyway) and venture outside. Tarmac is just as good as snow any day and there's a plentiful supply all year round. a lack of suitable hills should not deter our intrepid boarder. Make sure your ironing board is folded flat to avoid nasty accidents. Get a willing accomplice, a towrope, a car and you're off! The faster the car the better. motorways are great for longer runs with some nice scenery and ready made rail-slides; the wicked sparks are an added bonus. Other roads are more twisty twiney but you stand a better chance of getting a good kicker more often. parked up VW beetles are especially good but dont pass up the odd sports car. Most types are fine if you take them from the front. I've been getting some pretty good little hits off TR7s and MR2s, sweet!
Alternatively, hunt about for last season's stock that can be picked up brand new at the fraction of the cost of new lines. Doesn't bother me I'm just out for the crack!
Don't be a snob, just enjoy riding!
