Cha Chee, Son of a Gangsta The Biography Emotional, heart-felt, conversational are just a few words that describe the stylings of one Cha Chee Tribune, author of the Son of a Gangsta LP, slated to hit the streets of Chicago and beyond in 2006. The streets are starving! This long anticipated solo debut from one of Chicagos premier emcees has heads from the low end to the Wild Wild thirsty for the release of his critically acclaimed album. For the last 13yrs. Cha Chee (AKA Shawn Battle) has been on a steady grind to truly master his craft. Since his first song, though never recorded, about his moms drug addiction, Cha Chee found it easy to express himself through the pen and complete entire compositions seemingly without effort. His first recorded track, Happy Days (hence the name Cha Chee) was created in 1995 with the N.B.A. (National Ballers Association). Long time buddies Pudge-D, Drop, Rio, and extended member Rae Rellie all shared a similar dream and decided to form a rhyme collective with up start producer Black Stallion on the boards. The N.B.A. click went on to record roughly 200 songs through pre-production in Cha Chees basement studio before separating in 1999 for both business and personal reasons. Though the love remained unconditional, the consensus was for the squad to part ways. Prior to N.B.A. disbanding, Cha Chee and Drop collaborated with Just Ro the previous year (1998) to record the Just Ro & The Nation compilation that showcased Cha Chees style and passion in a different arena of emcees. Fast forward. The year is 2001 and childhood friend Mike Flo has recently moved back to Chi from Atl. with ambitions of recording his first solo project after a stint with his former group U.N.S.I.G.N.E.D. (Under No Situation Is Greed Necessary End of Discussion). Sharing alike paths, from growing up together to working in a group setting, Flo encouraged Cha Chee to embark upon the obvious and do his own thing. With that in mind, Cha Chee spent the next 2 yrs. writing while working in sales and learning the real estate business simultaneously. With his pockets secure and several journals filled past the margins, Cha Chee deemed 2004 the year to begin strategically recording his album, in addition to blazing mixtapes whenever possible with crucial cameos throughout the city. The albums title and content remain consistent and true to form throughout as Cha Chee truly provides insight to the ways of this world through the eyes and soul of a gangstas son. To put it brief, Cha Chee has seen both the joys and pains of the hustle growing up in a family knee deep in this nations drug game during the 1970s & 80s. The mentioning of names at this time would only spawn several volumes of information impossible to digest in this abridged version of the Cha Chee Battle biography. Cha Chees outlook on todays rap game is progressive yet realistic, as he encourages artists to get money without compromising the art. He specifically speaks of rappers following predictable formats with nursery rhymes full of senseless rhetoric and make-believe stories. Hes dedicated the album to his late father Chip (R.I.P.) and all of the lost ones who taught him the rules, regulations, and proper protocols of the streets and life in general. Stay tuned for the release of the Son of a Gangsta LP, The Flukey Stokes Collection of apparel, and the Against the Grain mixtape series in conjunction with Law Man Dia &Wrath Records, all coming this year. Study the game and hustle smart. -Cha Chee Tribune
