About Me

ToolsForMySpace.com
My name is Glen Thomas from Sault Ste. Marie, Canada and I've been a drummer for almost 30 years but also play bass, guitar and keys. I have toured small pockets of Canada and the U.S. with numerous bands including, The Crank Shop, Wizard, Rhythm Method, Rainhorses, Scrooge, Ghengis Khan and more. I do a bit of vocals but I barely scrape by as a singer but I do give it a shot once in a while on my own tunes. After many years of playing in bands I got frustrated trying to get musicians together to help with the original material I was writing. Way too many critics or lack of interest. Not really their fault. Everyone has their own tastes, like we all know. Some musicians don't seem to see the vision of how a raw song in it's beginning stages can be molded into something better. This probably goes for a lot of musician's out there who do write their own songs. Anyway, I decided to learn different instruments and do things myself. Like many, I invested in recording equipment along with guitars and amps to help with my little song writing hobby. I have a lot of material writiten (bits and pieces) and hopefully over the next little while I can record it all. The problem is "time". It takes a lot of time to do all the parts along with structure the songs, mix them and yada yada yada.. You know the deal. For me, it's just fun. I have no dream of stardom.. This is just a labour of love for me because music is my life and it's just enjoyable. If someone likes one of my songs GREAT, but it's not why I write. It's all about doing something you love and it's all about the challenge of creating something from a few chords.
I still play in bands. I have my main outfit known as Flat Stanley and I am part of 3 other projects, one being Finger Bang which is an internet group that exchanges our musical parts via email or chatline. This is a cool idea and a lot of fun. The band is located in Canada and the U.S. and have basically never met in person. We start out with a single track and then send it to the other band members who in turn add their own part to it. We are all using Cakewalk music software which we load all the band members parts into to form a song. It's COOL! I do the final throw together mix at my place. I'm also with a band called Route 69 but I play bass in that band. It's a part time gig but always fun when we do play. Oh, most of these projects have their own MySpace sites listed in the "friends" area or websites on the left of this page so have a look if you get the chance.
