As you all know my name is POONAM KUMAR. I am currently a 22 year-old senior at the University of Utah anticipating to graduate this May 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication/ Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Ethnic Studies. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and am currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. While in school I work two part time jobs one of which include, working at KUED Channel 7, a Utah-PBS affiliate, doing mainly public relations work, and the other as a night club promoter/ shot girl during the weekends. My ethnic origin of descent is American Indo-Pacific Islander. My ancestors are from the northern part of India (also known as Uttar Pradesh); during the British rule they were sent as indentured laborers to the Fiji Islands where two-to-three generations of my family have been brought up (mainly in Suva, Nadi and Latoka area). As for me, I am proud to say that I am a first-generation American born at times "confused (kind of) DESI." Anyhow, some of my goals upon graduation include traveling back to the mother country of India to study in depth more about film, documenting communities and mass media abroad, specifically news anchoring and television hosting. I truly feel a global education will enhance my future career options. So...there's a brief bit about me.
