About Me

Hey there! Hows it going? My name is Gabe. Most call me "Big Gabe" which is pretty self explanatory.
I'm a native Houstonian, music fanatic & an artist. In fact, I'm a tattoo artist & I love what I do more than anything in the world. I feel honored that people would trust me to mark their bodies, so I do the best job I can on every tattoo I do..
Seriously though, tattooing is not only my job... it is my LIFE. It is one of my main passions & means much more to me than just a way to make ends meet. As a child I would sit for hours on end drawing band logos to the exact. I spent a lot of time concentrating on the little details & line work. So, I guess tattooing was sort of a natural progression for me when all is said and done. But it took me a while to figure it out. As a youngster I was a bit confused about how one goes about picking a career, I was torn between my music & my art. So, after graduating high school, I decided to attend the Art Institute. Not for art.. but for Audio Engineering. (go figure) It wasn't long until I found that the music business wasn't going to work out for me. So, I did what any stubborn 19 year old kid would do, I spent a LOT of years making mistakes & trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Haha.
I found myself spending most of my free time drawing & trying to emulate much of what I was seeing in magazines. I followed a plethora of artists and daydreamed about doing what they did for so long I finally decided the artist in me was worth giving a shot. It took me a while to figure it all out. But I worked hard, invested everything I had into my art and here I am.. finally living my dream! Not a lot of people can truly say that now-a-days. I feel blessed & very fortunate to be able to say I do what I love most for a living. Believe it or not, it wasn't until about 5 years ago when I reached my 30's that I finally found the courage to pursue my dream of tattooing. Yeah, I guess you could say I got a slow start. But once I did, I jumped in head first & never looked back. Okay, so maybe I looked back a few times along the way.. but I keep on keeping on.
In all honesty.. I love art before tattooing. Don't get me wrong, I love me some tattooing. But I approach everything as art first and foremost. I prefer custom pieces because I like to draw everything on my own. Even flash. I enjoy seeing the progression of each and every piece as it evolves on paper & then into the tattoo itself. Drawing allows me to learn & grow as well as remind me to always stay humble. It isn't always easy to stay motivated. But the more I draw.. the more I push myself & my boundaries to increase the chances of reaching my ultimate potential as an artist. Which ultimately, is my goal. And goals, my friends are a good thing to have in life. It is because of them (goals) that I stay busy, booked & bonkers majority of the time. And as crazy as it may sound... I love every freakin' moment! Well, maybe not EVERY moment.. but life is pretty damn sweeet.
While I am pretty much skilled at most styles of tattooing, my favorite style/genres are a mixture of Traditional Japanese, American Traditional, New School & Black & Gray.
I have much respect & admiration for EVERY artist I have been inspired by, met or have worked with over the course of my career. (Be it good or bad) Because they aid me in pushing forward. And forward, is the only direction I am interested in going.
There IS more to me than drawing & tattooing though. No, really. I'm into meeting new folks, ALL things music, grilling on the BBQ, trying new/interesting foods, sitting on my ass at home & spending time with my oh so amazing fiancée, Casondra & our furrkids, Kiyah & Kilala. You know.. normal shit.
I strive to live my life based upon a few simple rules... I TRY to respect & treat others the way I want to be treated. Attempt to remind myself that judgment does more harm than good. And, just in case you didn't already know, The "5 second rule" is ALWAYS in effect!
So, there you have it... just a normal guy with great ambition, trying to do his thing.
Oh, and speaking of doing my thing... if any of you are interested in having some sick work done (cause I'm always ready for more)... hit me up!
You can check out my work here in my photo albums (there is plenty more where that came from).
