About Me

"...the best singer-songwriter you've never heard of...stunning debut album...simply sultry vocals...reminiscent of both Rickie Lee Jones and Sade." - John Threlfall, Monday Magazine
"...work of art...I have no hesitiation in heralding it as an outstanding album...extraordinarily well-crafted and orchestrated." - Eric Ostermier, Words on Music
"...This is compellingly modern music about very modern realities - addiction, alienation, betrayal, sexual abandon - performed by an artist in full possession of unique qualities: An exceptional voice, a poet's eye, a courageous heart, and a damn fine set of guitar-picking fingers..." - Gregg Quill, Toronto Star
"...cette residante de Victoria a frappe dans le mille des son premier opus. Voila une artiste de haute tenue si l'on s'en tient a Twelve Easy Pieces, un disque d'une qualite etonnante...Qu'on se le dise, Anne Schaefer est deja une musicienne de premier plan..." - Alain Brunet, La Presse(Montreal)
Singer-songwriter Anne Schaefer combines her talents as a composer and multi-instrumentalist to create lyrically direct and emotionally evocative soundscapes. Her genre-blurring compositions draw upon the traditions of folk, jazz, world and roots.
Winner of the Vocalist of the Year Award at the 2004, Island Music Awards, Songwriter of the Year and Artist of the Year Awards, 2005(IMA), Anne is attracting attention with the October, 2005 Canadian release of her debut album, Twelve Easy Pieces(Roadhouse Records/SRI).
Generously funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Twelve Easy Pieces, showcases the originality of Schaefer's writing, the excellence of her vocal and instrumental musicianship and a host of spectacular collaborations by musicians such as Daniel Lapp, Hugh Fraser, Bill Runge and Scott White.
Masterfully co-produced between Schaefer and rising star producer, engineer and musician, Joby Baker, Twelve Easy Pieces, unites Anne's classically trained childhood, jazz inspired teens and her Argentinian based early adulthood in a seamless musical work of art that is winning over the ears of fans, colleagues and critics as Schaefer's growing profile is heard on national CBC programs from "Sounds like Canada" to "After Hours" and everything in between. This same musical diversity has allowed Schaefer to share the stage with artisits ranging from Canadian songstress, Mae Moore, to jazz drumming legend Roy Haynes.
Anne has perfomed in Canada, France, Mexico and Argentina.
She is now based on Canada's West Coast, Victoria, B.C.
