About Me

Niko Star has been into music ever since the mid 80's when his family moved from Cherry Gardens, Jamaica up to Texas. The love for music grew into a passion when Niko's family moved to Florida in the early 90's and he met his DJ uncle. At that point Niko decided he wanted to be a DJ. On his next summer trip back to Jamaica, Niko got a part time job at Comtron JA Ltd. and used his $500 JA dollars a week to buy records. Still in high school Niko would DJ at any and every party that he could. His weekends were usually spent djing some community center function, or a friends birthday party. Niko graduated high school at 16, and started at the University of Central Florida only three weeks after his 17th birthday. Unable to get into any of the college parties because he was too young, he decided to try and DJ all of the parties that he could. His first gig in college was an Alpha valentines party. Niko came with a style that the college crowd hadn’t heard before, by mixing down south, hip hop, reggae, and then throwing in disco and 80’s music. Before long Niko was booked for all the major parties around college, including The Kappa Pajama Jam, Kappa Luau, Omega Week, and the AKA Ball. Niko started a sound a couple years later called Yard world with his best friend Blink Star, and another good DJ friend Stamina. The sound did well booking a lot of weekly clubs from Caribbean Beach Club, to Palladium, even Downtown Orlando clubs such as Volcanoes, Firestone, and Tabu. Unfortunately the pressures of running a sound was too much and Niko left his own sound and decided to be a solo DJ. Getting bored with the music scene in Orlando, Niko decided to finish school in one of the toughest cities in the U.S. New York. Not knowing anyone Niko moved to Dobbs Ferry New York (which is right above Yonkers) to finish school and see if he can make it in New York. Two months later Niko landed himself an internship at the biggest rap label Def Jam Records. He worked under Ian Allen, who is responsible for bringing Capleton to Def Jam, and also the Foxy Brown, Spragga Benz collaborations on her last album. Unfortunately this job and school left him hardly any time to DJ. But he would do school functions when they came along. Niko graduated January 2002 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems. Not able to withstand the cold weather, Niko moved back to Florida. It wasn’t long before Niko was back on the club scene in Orlando djing all of the weekly clubs, and concerts. Niko began making cd’s and remixes, and caught the ear of a couple people in Miami. He began receiving calls to buy remixes, and also make remixes for certain DJ’s. Eventually Niko decided to try his luck Djing in Miami, and was introduced to Super Dups and Bobby Chin through a mutual friend. Dups and Bobby gave Niko a chance, but living in Orlando and BC being based in Miami was a little strenuous. Niko stayed in Orlando for a couple more years, and made another return to Miami on his own when Jaime from Absolute let him play early warm up at Stages Warm-Up at Revolution. Since then Niko has been building a buzz around Miami. This was solidified when Bambino approached Niko to join a sound he was starting called Gambino Sound Family. Niko accepted, and the group of Bambino and Niko have been mashing up parties ever since, quickly becoming one of the more popular sounds in and around Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------- Just link me in the clubs, and ask me wha you want to know. If you really know me call me.
