About Me

With a history of producing, programming and mixing music since early 1988, Ceasar Flores, the brainchild for the whole concoction has always had a goal when it comes to his art. While his earlier projects including garage bands and local gigs brought him more success both on a musical and social level than most local bands, no one in the area could really compare to the success which X-21 brought he and his band mates. While most club dj's undertake their own nicknames, Ceasar loosely called himself X-21 during the beginning of his career at El Paso's own Club 101, the only alternative club in the area. The name stuck and thus X-21 came to life. While at the club he met Eddie Alcalá in early 1990. Needing a voice to compliment his early productions Eddie was asked to sing for X-21. Flores also met Dave Grohusko who had been playing in the El Paso synth scene as well. After many weeks of production and studio time, X-21 made their first debut on stage opening up for Anything Box on December 22, 1990. The response was intense, making way for media recognition. Soon the band was opening up for most bands passing through the area including Cause and Effect, Book of Love, Anything Box, and Information Society. With such a successful and welcoming response they received playing live, the band released a series of singles including "Descend" which received air play on a local radio station. In mid 1991, compatibility problems were cause for a lineup change, first Chris Lopez entered the group then Jorge Espino. Following the change, "Soar" became the band's next hit single in the El Paso area. The song was so successful that it received air play in two cities, one being in Juarez, Mexico. This led the way for the band being invited to once again open up for Anything Box and Cause and Effect for a 7,000 + audience. The response was incredible and "Comprala" was released off of the new CD from which "Soar" also made a big impact. For a time an Alternative Keyboard based song received extensive air play on not only the Spanish stations in Mexico, but it also appeared on an Alternative radio show for several weeks. While things couldn't seem better for the band, change was once again in the air. Espino left the group to pursue a solo career. George Navarro filled in for only a couple of shows in El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. Chris Lopez left soon after to study Recording Engineering. Ceasar was growing tired of the revolving door as far as members went and felt that his goal could be better achieved with a stable and completely new line-up. Adrian Alvarez, Robert Sermeño and Beaux Vigil joined the band. Rehearsals with the new band members began but Ceasar felt a void in it all. Both frustrated and distraught, X-21 were invited to open up for Bad Boys Blue and the pop smash electronic Information Society. Playing once more with Anything Box the band was in inertia for a few months. Ceasar began extensive studio work with his new keyboardist Robert and found a compatibility in music and style. In December of '93 X-21 became Communion at Flores' discretion and an 8 track cassette was released in July of 1994. The music on this album has heavy hints of classic Depeche Mode and New Order and other influences as directed by Flores consist of Joy Division, the Cult and the Cure. These examples are by no means a fair representation of the deep and almost gothic hypnotic sound which Communion attributes but only a small teaser as to the harmony and style for which you will be inundated in. With deep collaboration between Ceasar and Robert Sermeño, Ceasar's lyrics are a maze of the virtually realistic sides of life: love, sex and lies. "Songs about rainbows, sunshine and holding hands seems too trivial these days" says Ceasar. Communion is a voyage through waves of notes and harmony unlike you have ever ridden before. Their music is an instant mood manipulative and once you have been altered, there is no turning back... (1994)The X-21/Communion group was an electronic force in the early 90's El Paso music scene but unfortunately burned out way too early.
