About Me

I enjoy studying efficiency. I'm starting to see that engineering is more about simplifying problems than actually solving them. Before diving into complicated mathematics and theory that drain our resources, are there other ways to view the problem that make the solution clear?I'm also starting to see this type of thinking very beneficial in interacting with people. If someone tries to insult me, should I insult them back? This would certainly be the most intuitive action. But then maybe the insult doesn't go very well, and I walk away feeling irritated that they got the best of me. Or, maybe my insult is very good and the other person walked away feeling irritated. Then I feel good for a while, but at someone's expense. But what if instead of reacting immediately to the insult, I just observe it. Let it come in. I ask myself why the insult bothers me. When I respond, I choose words that are neutral and directed towards a resolution (avoiding the battle of egos). I may even respond with kindness if it seems appropriate. I've found that when I can respond to people in this way (lots of practice), it is the most efficient way of interacting with people.Anyhow, I don't know why I put all this stuff here, but these are things I like to think about nowadays...

SNR and Global Warming

The last couple days I’ve been working a lot in the electronics lab with the concept of SNR, or Signal-to-Noise Ratio.  This is how it works.  I’m in a crowded bar and there are ...
