Aileen's Bday Poem
This be like a sweet 16 because we’re celebrating this 16/
Years of friendship between you and me/
From the beginning days when our g-mas were tight/
To sleepovers, playing house, and the poems we’d write/
Sharing our common language and culture Diojiu/
Been daring w/ our pursuits and even looks and styles new/
From Chinese school with my third aunt in an apt not too grand/
To celebrating holidays with an arts and crafts or baking and cooking plan/
Never the same school, and homephones and pagers connected us any day/
Thankful I made the decision to make it work at UCLA/
Your orange complimented my blue from the dorms to our own apartment/
We hung out in Campbell Hall, home to Asian American Studies Center and Department/
Graduation was a bliss as we walked together Father’s Day in APIG/
Now with our jobs we carpool in the morning next to them big rigs/
On the 10 from our homes as it’s within our hearts/
To be close to our families and be like family and do our parts/
Happy twenty something to one who’s sisterly-like/
I hope I didn’t embarrassed you too much with all this rhyming-hype.
