I'm a historian and sometime curator. Mostly I write about photographs and other images, sometimes about motorcycles, a little about music. In my spare time I'm a trumpet player (since 1974!), and I play live and record about once every other month or so. I play guitar too. Most of my friends are bikers, musicians, artists, and academics, usually a combination of two or more. I was trained as a jazz musician, but I balked at the conventions and pieties; prefer the creative range of Latin and other types of ensemble musics. I was in an early post-rock NY surf/samba/soundtrack band in the mid '80s, The Wayfarers. Try to find our records; they're fun, but a little dated here and there. We had a repertoire of like 150 songs in five years, 2/3s originals. I was Ray Ryder (S.) back then. Try this for starters: http://mysticalbeast.blogspot.com/2004/05/last-wednesday-i-w
