[email protected] Phy received his BA in Music Education from the University of Louisville in Kentucky, and his MM in Jazz Studies Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. His main teachers at NEC included Bob Brookmeyer, Bob Moses, Cecil MacBee, and George Russell.
Davids career has included time on cruise ships performing for star acts like Charo, Barry Williams, and Ben Vereen. In addition, David was a cast member of the Emmy Award winning stage show Blast! at Disney Worlds Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida.
Spending four years in Las Vegas, his freelance career there included performances such as: The Tribute to Frank, Sammy, Joey and Dean at the Greek Isles Hotel and Casino; Trent Carlini as The Dream King at the Hilton Las Vegas, Latin Music artist La India; Las Vegas Blue Note Jazz Cafe; and The House of Blues. He fronted his own projects at The Palms Hotel Casino, and hosted a Tuesday night Jazz Series at Steven Davids club; as well as private functions with Salsa Bands, Top 40 groups, Cover Bands, and Jazz combos.
In the summer of 2005 David rejoined “The Tribute to Frank, Sammy, and Joey and Dean†show, and performed a 9 month run in San Francisco. Following that, David moved to Chicago where he quickly made connections and performed various gigs in the area. Currently, David is the Jazz Trombone Teaching Assistant to Jim Pugh while working on his DMA in Jazz studies at the University of Illinois. His main teachers are Jim Pugh, Chip Stephens and Chip McNeil.
