Rollin' on the River!!!

About Me

River Valley Rollergirls is Fort Smith's first women's flat track roller derby league.

Currently we are practicing twice a week at Wheels in Motion in Van Buren, AR.

If you are interested in joining the league, either as a skater or a referee, just drop by during one of our regular practices on te 2nd & 4th Sundays of each month from 10am-1pm, Monday from 6:30-8:30pm or Thurdsay from 8pm-10pm at Wheels in Motion, 1007 Fayetteville Rd in Van Buren, AR. Feel free to sit back and watch or put on a pair of skates and join in on the fun.

If you would like to be a derby skater, no recent experience is expected, however you must be female and at least 18 years of age.

I created my own profile using nUCLEArcENTURy.COM and you should too!

My Interests

What is Roller Derby?
Roller derby is an American contact sport—and historically, a form of sports entertainment—based on formation roller skating around a track. It is played at both professional and amateur levels. While traditionally for both women and men, roller derby has developed a predominately female circuit during its current revival.

Roller Derby Gameplay
P = Pivot
B = Blocker
J = Jammer

PIVOT: Sets the pace for the pack and is the last line of defense. She wears the helmet with a stripe.

BLOCKER: Tries to stop the jammer and makes life difficult for the opposing team's blockers

JAMMER: Tears through the pack and scores points by passing members of the opposing team. She wears the helmet with a star.

The pack begins with a pivot from each team in front, 3 blockers from each team in the middle, and a jammer from each team in the back. When the whistle blows, the pack takes off, and on a second whistle, the jammers blast off and fight their way through the pack in an attempt to become "lead jammer." The jammers lap the pack and when they re-enter the pack, they receive one point for each member of the opposing team that they pass. A jam lasts a maximum of two minutes, but the "lead jammer" has the right to call off the jam at her discretion.

It might appear as though there are no rules among the combatants on wheels, but there are penalties for certain behavior such as:

-false starts
-excessive skating out of bounds
-holding
-illegal blocking
-intentional tripping and falling
-illegal use of the hands

Although it sounds simple, it sure isn't easy. Take these guidelines and add falling, fighting, tempers, rivalries and general mayhem.

You'll see the results.

I'd like to meet:
