.. Leon Devers is a modernist with his roots in African American culture. His respect and knowledge of Jazz stems largely from his extensive research and analysis of the "Jazz Masters", an effort that began at an early age. Leon had the privilege of studying at Dallas' esteemed Booker T.Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and continued at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Leon recived the coveted Downbeat Magazine award for Composition and later featured in both that publication and JazzTimes Magazine for his outstanding trumpet playing. Leon was fortunate to study modern Jazz with Blue note recording artist Greg Ozby,Clark Terry and Wallace Roney and Ralph Peterson Jr. He has shared the stage with Artist Saul Williams, Erica Badu, Roy Hargrove,Snoop Dogg, James Clay, Christian Parkess, J.T. Donaldson,Arturo Sandoval.He has performed at many touch stone venues incuding The Tonight Show with Jay Leno ,Soul Train Music Awards,House of Blues,Irving Plaza,Village Vangaurd, The World Stage,Gypsy Tea Room, Leon Devers continues to be a dynamic, energetic and imaginative musician/composer who constanly strives for greater heights of musical perfection,never missing his mark.
