About Me

In 2004 I became the first in England to be dismissed/sacked/fired (dooced) for writing a blog. After years in the shadows, it would appear that recognised notoriety had finally arrived.
The dismissal occurred on 11 November 2004, after months of writing my account (totalling 600 pages on Microsoft Word) my employer Beaumont Seymour took me to task over various comments and suspended me, obviously finding content within the blog they felt unfavourable.
In reality their response to the blog was ultimately heavy handed and humourless, completely out of character of such the environment I was working. Of course in the real world (of business) anything to a company in a bad light (even if true) represents a threat to the almighty pound note.
Today I maintain everything and anything that was said in the blog. Losing my job was losing a battle of something I truly believed and the main casualty was my professional career (fortunately I did not lose my home which came under threat, instead I paid the mortgage with a credit card and wracked up £20K on the plastic instead).
Writing got me into trouble but that was really exciting, it showed me the true power of the written word. If I have learned nothing in my adult life (and some say I haven’t) it is that standing up for yourself is never going to be easy
