Television:

A dour and solitary figure, Jonathan Creek isn't your typical detective. It's just that his line of work, stage managing magic tricks for American illusionist Adam Klaus, uses skills that are useful in solving mysteries.Rather than working out how to perform the illusion, Creek works backwards to find out how the 'trick' - the crime - was carried out.Creek's powers of detection are very much in the Sherlock Holmes mould, forgoing a brute force and bluster approach in favour of the careful evaluation of the merest hint of a clue.He doesn't actively seek out to solve mysteries. As with his day job, he prefers to stay in the shadows, but was drawn into using his talents by crime novelist Maddy Magellan, who has an insatiable appetite for discovering the truth.A shy man, Jonathan is unprepared for the trappings of fame that eventually come with his successes - especially when it involves meeting members of his very own fan club, who model themselves a bit too much on their hero.Since Maddy departed for America, Jonathan has become increasingly involved in Eyes and Ears, a Crimewatch-style show fronted by old flame Carla Borrego.
