The Drop Zone hosted by Tom Conley can be heard each Saturday night from 11PM to 2AM on KTWL, 105.3 FM from The Woodlands, TX, (a north Houston suburb). If you are outside the Houston area, you can listen on the web by going to KTWL.com and clicking the listen live button.
The Drop Zone is a listener oriented show that plays genre free music in nearly every form. Although the emphasis is on rock and popular music, the show tends to dive deeper into an artist repertoire than most programmers would venture. Often on The Drop Zone you’ll hear an Artist that you’ve known for a long time, but didn’t know until now that they performed “that songâ€. This is keeping with the BOB-FM, mantra of “we play anythingâ€.
Moreover, the show encourages listeners to bring new music to the table. This evidenced by the “Locals†segment (11:30P to Midnight) where I turn over the music programming to guest DJs who spin their favorite (radio ready) music for the listening audience. This segment has been instant success with the local listeners. Likely participants are asked to send their musical selections (at least 6 songs) to [email protected] for consideration. Tom asks that guests under 18 bring a parent or guardian.
At least twice per month and often times more frequently, Tom features a particular artist and their music. This segment takes the form of; phone in, taped, or live in the studio interview. The Drop Zone listeners have heard from artists ranging from the Multi-platinum Def Leppard to 3 time Grammy Award winning Delbert McClinton, and from singer songwriter Pete Droge to southern rockers Copperhead. The 2007 Christmas show featured Houston’s own Archie Bell as an in studio guest and co-host. Tom chats with the artists on nearly any subject, and often allows listeners to chime in. It’s always an exciting segment because you never know will be said or told.
And lastly Tom encourages new and emerging artists, local or otherwise to submit their music for radio airplay consideration. The Drop Zone is always on the prowl for new Artists and new music.
Web listeners may reach Tom by email by using [email protected] or using the AIM screen name “LiveIntheStudio†during The Drop Zone show hours. Of course listeners are encouraged to call the studio during the show at 281 419 4014 or toll free at 866 484-5895 to request music or make comments.
Thanks for listening.
