When the South Carolina movement is mentioned, you have to mention up and coming artist D.J. AKA D. Menace. Born Marvin D. Gilchrist, Jr. November 28, 1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He moved to Charleston, SC at such a tender age, that he does not even rember exactly how old he was. With that said he calls Chucktown home.D. Menace began rapping seriously in the 6th grade. He started out with Dem Boi Records. In the 7th grade he began recording and releasing records as Lil' D.J. After gathering an initial buzz in middle school he decided Dem Boi Records released a compilation disc his 9th grade year. He was the only artist to have a solo song on the entire release. This album titled "Dem Boi On A Come Up/ CatchYaSlippin had the streets of Charleston on fire.He later grouped with other members of his school wich made up the group DUB (Dem Untouchable Boyz). After graduating, everyone went thier own way. D.J. then decided to do something that no one in Charleston had really done at the time. He began doing mixtapes and selling them himself to keep a buzz in the streets. He changed his name to D-Jiggy to go with the new strategy.After a couple of solid years in Charleston, he decided that he wanted to not only persue the artistic side of the industry, but also the technical he enrolled in the Art Institute of Atlanta to study Audio Production. Shortly after the move He was given the name D. Menace. The name was given to him because he is a menace on beats. He now has a mixtape out entitled "On The Way To The Top" in conjuction with Gameface Ent.He is also stretching his entrepernual muscles by dabbling with ideas for a clothing line, promoting and developing a record label, and opening a retail store. Don't consider him just a rapper, consider him an innovator and opportunist.
