Polyethylene

About Me

WHO WE ARE
Polyethylene is proud to be part of the prominent Boston indie rock scene. Together since 2002, Polyethylene plays an innovative brand of indie pop with dual male/female vocals, warm melodies, catchy riffs, and rhythmic variety, mixed in with ambient, mood-driven instrumentals. The band's influences range from the Pixies to Mogwai to Radiohead to Death Cab for Cutie. This trio consists of Neal Ellis on guitar, bass and vocals, Elena Proakis Ellis on bass, guitar and vocals, and Richard Reed on drums. (No, they dont have the shoebomber in the band, though that would be one heck of a gimmick.) Recently, the band has been performing live with guest members Maria Cincotta on violin and Katie Teitler on flute.
Polyethylene has been performing in the Boston/Cambridge area since November 2002. Their full-length debut release, Paper or Plastic, received praise from Performer Magazine, the Noise, the Metronome, and Polyethylene fans throughout New England. Contact Elena at [email protected] for booking.
WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING
"musically stimulating – a combination of masterful drum work, poignant vocals and complex guitar movements…tight and inventive…Polyethylene’s musical flexibility echoes the group’s fluid artistry.”
Performer Magazine, December 2006
“What at first seems like atmospheric female fronted rock, turns into a blistering march of edgy guitars, erratic drums and amazing flutes and violins. …although “What Goes on Inside Houses” only contains 9 tracks, it manages to encompass all that is good in modern rock music, while still keeping a fresh outlook on things.”
The Plugg, April 2007
“this disc works best on a drizzly, unseasonably cold day in June—but there are some other songs that drive right along on a guitar-shaped chassis. This is, in a word, original, and as such, is well worth your time.”
The Noise, July 2007
