Big Al Davies

About Me

Big Al Davies started as a drummer with a band called Pyjama Souffle in 1985, he moved onto Keyboards with Caerphilly Punky-pop band the B Days and sang a couple of songs each set which gave him the taste for singing live.He left Doc Savage in 1987 after forming it with Pete six who was the B Days manager at the time, but he did sing live with them in Caerphilly a couple or three times until he fell off stage after a small slip and some brandy. He formed his own band as a singer-guitarist with Dave Grayland and Neil Williams and they had no fixed name and a couple of gigs before he left to rejoin himself as a solo singer songwriter (for want of a better description), he is a singer that writes songs, but doesn't sound like James Taylor.Along the way Al has played bass with Doc Savage in Caerphilly and the Sheds in Rudry, keyboards and Vocals with The Caerphillybillies and mandolin with the Wickhams (a fake paddy band band of Welshmen) he also plays mandolin with a yet un-named act called either the Pikes or the Mainwarings or the Beer Kats or the House of Lords. He released a cassette on Brainwash tapes in 1988 called "God and Fish" another called "Guts For Garters" in 1990, in 2000 he appeared on the Martin Newell tribute album Re:Newell playing the Brotherhood of Lizards tune "Rusty Iron Sun", he then had his first worldwide album release last year with "Feztastic" which includes two songs produced by Pete from Doc Savage and the crowd pleaser "Landlubber".He is currently trying to complete his next album called "The Ploughman's Lunch" and is working on a project with Roger Radio and Ron Bookless along with mail artist Michael Leigh.Big Al has written nearly 300 songs and is a close personal friend of Emperor Rhubarb with whom he shares a birthday and a mistress.
