I started off as a chorister in Coventry Cathedral, and was singing Bach Cantatas and recording Benjamin Britten by the time I was 13. Since then I've worked in many areas of music business and I'm happy to say I've enjoyed 95% of it (the other 5% was very well paid).I had a band in the 80's called Harvey and the Wallbangers which was a blast. We made four albums plus one called Jazz on EMI with Simon Rattle and generally misbehaved.
After the band split up I have been busy -
String Arranging (Soul II Soul D Influence) -
Writing and producing singers and musicians. (Clara Sanabras, Natacha Atlas)In 1999 I won the first Andrew Milne prize (Arts Council UK) and wrote Requiem in Blue a piece for two choirs of all ages and a big version of my band. I've performed the piece myself over 20 times and continue to do so.
In 2004 I was commissioned to write a piece for three choirs and the London Mozart players to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Dday. It was performed twice, once in Normandy (France) and once in Portsmouth (UK), conducted by Andrew Parrott. Later this year it will be done in Sweden for a week as part of the Lund International Choral festival. At the moment I'm working with fabulous Catalan singer Clara Sanabras (see herspace) on a disc and doing live dates in the UK, I'll be writing the music for the first staging of Watership Down, which will be done at the Lyric Hammersmith London as their Christmas Show and I'm touring the world with Natacha Atlas in a new acoustic band as MD.
