In 2005, Mariachi Chavez started as Stockton Unified School District's first high school mariachi course during the first school year of the brand new Cesar Chavez High School in Stockton, CA. Since, they have been growing and becoming more acknowledged in their own community. With their three years of experience, so far, they have performed all over Stockton in such venues as: parties, weddings, sport games, school related events, etc. They currently have a large sized group and are learning more and more music. They are a young spirited group with big hopes and are working on their way to fame, while they are learning something new everyday.
It currently consists of instruments such as Violins, Trumpets, Guitarron, Vihuelas, Guitars, Harp, Flute in training, and the ocassional addition of Tuba and Accordion.
Their main way of learning these new songs is by reading music, listening to music, attending Mariachi Workshops [such as the International Mariachi Festival in San Jose] and from director Mel Suguitan and student Luis "Tito" Talamantes.

En 2005, Mariachi Chávez llegó a ser el primer mariachi del Distrito Unificado Escolar de Stockton durante del primer año escolar de la nueva escolar César Chávez High School. Han sido creciendo y cada vez más reconocido en su propia comunidad. Con sus tres años de experiencia, hasta la fecha, han tocdo por todo Stockton en: fiestas, las bodas, juegos de deporte, eventos relacionados con la escuela, etc. Ellos actualmente tienen un grupo de gran tamaño y están aprendiendo más y más música. Se trata de un animado grupo de jóvenes con grandes esperanzas y están trabajando en su camino a la fama, y aprendiendo algo nuevo todos los dÃas.
En la actualidad consta de instrumentos como Violines, Trompetas, Guitarron, Vihuelas, Guitarras, Flauta, con la addición de Tuba y Acordeón a veces.
Su principal forma de aprendizaje de estas nuevas canciones es mediante la lectura de la música, escuchar música, asistir a talleres de Mariachi [como el Festival Internacional del Mariachi en San José], y del director Mel Suguitan y estudiante Luis "Tito" Talamantes.
