About Me

I am me and that's all I'll ever be. If you don't like that, you're S.O.L. I'm Jessica, and I'm an 18-year-old freshman Honors student at Monmouth College in Monmouth (a.k.a. Middle of frickin' nowhere), IL. However, I am a native of Chicago (the actual city, not a 'burb) and will be a Windy City girl at heart 'til the day I die. I am what you may call "straight-edge," meaning I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at any one thing, I like to dabble in a lil' bit of everything. I'm not the high-maintenance, prissy, cutsie, girly-girl type. In fact, I'm more of a tomboy, low-maintenance, and I take pride in that. I genuinely hate carrying purses; it's jeans and t-shirts for me, baby. I am a proud member of the Beta Epsilon chapter of the sorority Alpha Xi Delta here at good ole' MC (Epsilon family, woot woot!), but don't get me wrong, I am nowhere near the stereotypical sorority girl. If you don't have a sense of humor, you will not like me in the least. I can be your best friend or your worst enemy, it's your choice. I like to say that I'm an acquired taste -- either you love me or you don't. It's as plain as black-and-white, and there are few people who find themselves in that gray area. I am often sarcastic and witty. I am very quirky, random, and downright strange. I make lots of silly faces, odd noises and voices, often at the most random times. I love making people laugh and being made to laugh by others. I stick up for others, especially people who can't do so for themselves. I often feel others' pain, both physically and emotionally. I am very in tune with others' wants and needs (I guess in some ways I'd be considered a 'people-pleaser'). I'm one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, but some cynics would consider me to be too nice and, therefore, do not like me. I can be very outgoing, yet often times I am shy at first. I can be very talkative and persistent, and some people may consider it to be annoying when it's just that I really like interacting with them. I love making people feel important and good about themselves. I genuinely care about (almost) everyone. I'd do anything for any one of my friends, and I do get disappointed when some don't return the favor, yet I will always do whatever I can to retain a friendship even if I'm getting the short end of the deal. However, if you take severe advantage of me, that's it. I am a writer so I can be a stickler for grammar and spelling, mainly when it comes to my own, but if you ever need a proofreader, I am quite competent. I'm a sucker for any type of animal. I love to cuddle. I like horseback riding in nice weather -- not too hot or cold, and not too humid or too dry. One of my favorite things to do on a nice day is drive around with the windows down while listening to music. Music is a big part of my life. I love it. I seriously do. A great deal of the music I listen to was not only written but popular years before I was born. I am disappointed that I can only fit about 500 songs onto my iPod Nano when that's not even half of all the music I like. I wear skateboarding shoes even though I don't skate; I just think they're comfortable.

Music:

Anything and everything.... Except for rap and (most) hip-hop.

Movies:

Anything that can make me laugh, cry, soil myself, scream in terror, and jump out of my seat.... Preferably not all at once. That'd be one heck of a mess.

Television:

My dorm room is one of the very few you'll find that has no TV in it.

Books:

The Darwin Awards series, The Body Of Evidence series, The Confessions Of Georgia Nicolson series, Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales & Poems, Shade's Children, The Hot Zone, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Devil In the White City, The Good Earth, Cut, Heart Of Darkness, "I": The Creation Of A Serial Killer, The Blooding, The Strawmen, A Child Called "It", The Lost Boy, et cetera, et cetera. (And these are just my top favorites.)

Heroes:

The tooth fairy. It boggles my mind how she can manage to remove the teeth from beneath the pillows, considering her small size, and somehow has not yet been crushed to death by a sleeping child.

My Blog

It's been a long while since my last "blog" post, and, needless to say, much has happened since then. Therefore this will be a long post, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Let's have a brief pau...

Did you know that 42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

Ok, so I quit my job. I tried for a part-time schedule, but then I figured what's the point? I won't make a whole lot more to make that much of a difference, and I'll still have to spend quite a bit o...

Well, things have sort of been going down hill lately. Everything that's been stressing me out lately bit-by-bit has kind of all toppled down onto me and I seem to be crushing under its weight. My dad...
