I grew up on strictly traditional christian, gospel, and classical. I've since broadened my horizons to include selections of classic & modern rock, hip-hop, rap, pop, and techno. I generally dislike blues and typically hate country--though Jimmy Buffett is alright in my book and Alan Jackson's "It's five o'clock somewhere" rocks!Favorite bands: a tie between the Beatles and the Doobie Brothers.
My favorite films have a healthy mix of action, suspense, sci-fi, comedy, and shaggadelicness. Independence Day, The Matrix, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Harry Potter are good examples. Based on these examples, you can probably tell I'm not much for horror flics. Also I enjoy midieval and fantasy epics ranging from Braveheart to Lord of the Rings.
I seldom had cable or satellite television growing up, and at this point still don't. But I'm building a collection of old and new shows via DVD box sets (yaaay!) South Park, King of the Hill, King of Queens, Firefly, Magnum PI, Home Movies, the Simpsons, Futurama--these are all shows I'm working my way through and lovin'.
