did you know that 'discardability' isn't a word? i know, i couldn't believe it either.

About Me

i hail from west texas (where the west begins, actually) and to this humble neck of the woods my husband, marc, and I have returned with our three dogs, newman, murphy, and scout, and our most recent feline acquisition, charlie. we live a simple life in small town america and claim this as a medium-sized victory. i have but 15 hours remaining of my phd coursework before embarking on comprehensive exams and the enigmatic dissertation. so, in the meantime, i am the editor of the ut dallas arts journal and will continue to fulfill my familial obligations as the chief procurement officer --taking frequent and necessary (oftentimes superfluous, i admit) trips to the malt shop, target, wal-mart, home depot, lowes, and, most especially, colonial art supply, mikes hobby shop, and the bookcase (a musty dive, but it's local and i like it). i appreciate straight lines, right angles, and sharpened pencils, and find unnecessary and excessive marginalia distracting. my favorite punctuation--since there isnt a category specifically for these interests to the left--is the em dash, followed by the elipses in a close second...punctuation can say so much, which is why i abhor the overuse of the exclamation point. but more than that, i abhor poets who choose not to punctuate their work, claiming some otherworldly artistic license. and i like proper grammar, but i like beginning sentences with "and" and "but" even more. sadly, i tend to be a poor speller which is why i keep a dictionary on my desktop to double check even the silliest of words and play scrabble to make myself a stronger wordsmith. wordsmith. thats 24 points with the M on a triple letter score.
