WHAT IS AUDIO MASTERING?
Audio mastering is the final stage of development for your audio project. You have laboured for many hours in the studio, changing, improving, editing and refining. Audio mastering is that last step typically carried out by a third person that can make all the difference to the end result, having the advantage of a 'A fresh set of ears.'
Audio mastering is often confused with mixing, but the two are quite different: Mixing is balancing the levels between instruments and getting the individual instruments to sound good, where as mastering is a final touch and maximising of the sound volume. Commerically released CDs often sound much louder than your own mixes as they use compression and clever limiting techniques to maximise the levels, boosting the overall sound.
