our little co-op started in the late 1960's as the "whole wheat buying club", here in sunny isla vista, ca. by the time we incorporated into a cooperative in 1972, there were over 450 households meeting once a week in anis q'oyo park to help break down and distribute milk, eggs, cheese, grains, bread, and other staples. our co-op opened it's doors in 1972 to working members, and by 1978 had grown enough to both move to a bigger location and open to the public. So, here we are, 35 years and over 2,000 member-owners later, still growing, still full of laughter and love, still rocking isla vista's organic heart.
