About Me

Real name, John Nuyens. Born in San Francisco, CA USA and raised in the surrounding areas, I began performing at the ripe young age of five years old singing for family and friends. At 14 years I started playing guitar. I started writing songs in high school. Over the years I sang and played with many bands- from punk rock to reggae. And had the pleasure and priviledge to play with some very outstanding musicians and human beings. After toiling for years in the Bay Area's somewhat insane rat-race, I bailed out on life in Cali, relocated to Europe where I toured all over (15 countries, over 100 cities) with my songs and my balloons for the better part of 2002-2005. In 2006, after meeting the girl of my dreams while working on Shildergasse (shopping street in Cologne), I decided to make Cologne, Germany my home base. Due to my consistent travelling, however, it has proved difficult to get a steady band together, so I figured I'd better make a decent, live, one-man show. With the help of a loop-station and a drum machine, I now do a pretty good job of sounding like a full band when I feel the need (just me and my guitar still do nice job alone tho). I, also, in 2007, introduced my traditional one-man-band. I now play three instuments at once (drum, guitar or bass, vocals, and harmonica or kazoo) But, no matter how well I use the one-man-band, it just can't capture the power of a full group. So, I still hope to meet the right gang of folks and put something dynamic together. There is nothing like the energy of connecting with other musicians and getting in sync and getting down. One of the coolest things about Europe, is to meet someone with whom there is no hope of conversing with due to language barriers, and still making really cool music together. I have had some amazing impromptu jams with the most unlikely of people and combination of instruments. Music truly is the universal language..:o)

Couchsurfing!

In the last years I have spent a lot of time and money on campsites and youth hostels. I have always found that one of the best things that can happen to me while on the road is to meet a local or a n...

More on Ireland

In my last blog I went on about the musicians I met but mentioned little about the other aspects of Ireland. Of course the landscape is quite beautiful, and the cities are also nice. I prefer smaller...

Welcome to circumcision!

Ok...the gig last night was not a birthday, but a circumcision celebration. Go figure! I would never celebrate snipping my member, but hey, to each his own. This gig was a little crazy. For two hours ...

May Week

The May week was fun, but I went ahead and wrapped it up a couple of days early. After dealing with the psycho druggie balloon guy and his weird skinny woman, I decided to leave Osnabrück alone for a...

May Week

Well, two days into the Osnabrück May week, I must admit I am a bit disappointed. No fault of anyone in particular, just the way the dice roll I guess. A bit of rain, trouble finding a good pitch for...
