About Me

White Soaring Eagle aka

Two Feathers Ghostwood:

Native American flutist, zither harpist, percussionist, performer, story teller, recording artist, and Native American medicine, Sacred Path card reader.

Biography :   White Soaring Eagle, formerly known as Two Feathers is a musician with a flare for eclectic sounds.   Being a descendent of the Seihlagee Nation (Cherokee), he’s always enjoyed music of most kinds from classical, to world beat, rock, jazz, ambient, electronica, and many other genres of music.   He started in elementary school learning what he now calls his primary language, that of music.   Starting with the recorder and choir in elementary school, then keyboards in 1986, he’s written many songs and played in many bands, ranging from rock, to avant-garde, improve jazz, and world beat.

His career as a musician took a turn when he was introduced to the zither harp and a year later, the Native American flute.   His introduction to the flute was the manifestation of a personal quest to find one and learn it.   The reason behind this was that it put him into a meditative state, was very soothing and made him aware of distant memories that seemed familiar to him but were yet unknown.

During his attendance at the Austin Native American powwow, he was introduced to the flute by William Gutierrez, whom is credited with being his mentor to the instrument.   He furthered his training by studying the works of Nakai, Anaquad, Fire Crow, and others to get a feel for what the instrument was about and the different techniques in song playing.   In his education, he collected the stories and the legends behind the flute and has incorporated the stories into his performances.

Currently White Soaring Eagle resides in Austin ; and while not engaging in high tech work, he spends his time performing, recording, doing medicine card readings, researching shamanic traditions and consciousness, and coaching others in realizing and developing their innate intuitive abilities.

About “Seventh Direction”:   This release is a culmination of a project that started almost immediately after Two Feathers received his first flute.   He teamed up with fellow musician, Dick Ross, drummer for bands such as Poi Dog Pondering, Joe King Corrosco, The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Casamar, and Dime A Dozen.   The intent was to craft a CD that would take someone on a meditative journey inside themselves and provide soundscapes and textures that would invoke images of different settings and tell stories, depending on what the person is looking for.   Each person would have their own special experiences with this CD.

During the recording of the CD, they played much of the material in a live setting in order to do research and development in finding what would be a powerful visionary and healing sound for the listeners.   After much recording, the two parted ways to pursue other projects.   Then in February of 2003, Two Feathers founded Indigo Time Records (his independent label) and assembled the master recordings for his first CD, “Seventh Direction”, which as been well received by those who’ve heard the work.   It’s the first in the series of recordings that promise to be an inner journey that links the ancient and the coming new world for all who will listen to their voice in the seventh direction or inside.

About “Ancestral Voices”:   According to ancient legends, the voices of the ancestors could be heard within the running waters of the oceans, rivers and streams. The Thunder Beings speak and echo our truth and the truth of Creation itself; echoed by the children of Mother Earth and Father Sky.

Imagine sitting at a stream and with a thunderstorm in the distance as each flute song takes you on a journey to experience a story. Each story is unique, but intertwined with the rest, as we all are a story in the grand tapestry of the cosmos.

Blessed Journeys as you walk in divine beauty. Aho!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ghostwoodtrail
Band Members: White Soaring Eagle on Native American flute, Ocarina, zither harps, medicine rattles, keyboards, drums, and rain stick.Other performances on "Seventh Direction" by: Dick Ross ..boards, drums, rain sticks, and medicine rattles. Special appearance by Dr. Tim Stranahan on dijeridu and whirler.
Influences: My influences come from a myriad of directions. from Classical, Rock, later jazz, and anything I could get my hands on that sounded interesting to me. I grew up on bands like Rush, Triumph, Yes, Genesis. Later, about the time I acquired my first flute, King Crimson, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, and other progressive styles that caught my attention. That was a few years into my Progressive metal phase when I was intrigued by bands like Dream Theater, Marilliaon, and others. But I was also influenced by the more etheric side wof music with artists such as Soulfood, John Seri, Enigma, Mythos, Afro Celt Sound System, B-Tribe, Waterbone, and other ambient and world beat artists. But the flute influence coms from people like Nakai, anakwad, Russel Firecrow, Robert Miribal. But the one to really thank for getting me into all of this was at first Dave Munroe who inspired me to become a musician and later, William Gutierez who exposed me to my natve instrument. Lately I've been going back to the classic rock artists like Zepelin and Tull, where I realized that I want to be the Native American answer to Ian Anderson. What will influence me next? It just depends. I'm constantly exploring new things here and there, so the list og my influences, I'm sure will grow.
Sounds Like: It kind of sounds like John Serri with Carlos Nakai. That's the best way that I can describe it. It's essentially music set in a meditative space, taking the listener to different worlds and letting them create their own story according to what they hear.
