About Me

Hi, I'm Kate and I compose music derived from nature, folklore, poetry, energy systems. I am particulary interested in exploring song as a versatile medium which can be pushed, pulled and formed to eradicate certain boundries, while embracing a tradition. I am currently investigating the ways in which the voice has been approached across different traditions, with particular regard to the wordless song, or songs employing the use of 'vocables'. A large part of my song repertoire has been influenced by Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Tori Amos...but now as I look more towards the focus of the voice I have recently come across the likes of Yma Sumac (astounding Pervuian self-taught opera singer, very experiemntal who has recently passed away November 2008), Bobby McFerrin (a hugely influencial explorer of the voice!), and many others. I hope to research, write and record more of this kind of work in the future! I also have a ceilidh band, available for bookings. (email [email protected])
