About Me

Some people keep a diary. Some sing or act. Others just act out. I photograph. It’s not all I do, sometimes I eat and sleep. Okay, I’m not that bad a photo geek, but when I travel I always have my camera. My photos are like my journal of the places I go and the people I meet. Some of the images here are from my commercial portfolio, but most are personal. This site is my personal journal laid open. Since its tax time, an accountant friend of mine asked me how much I make with my camera. Well, I’m definitely not getting rich by an accountant’s viewpoint. But the measure of life should be about experiences lived not the size of ones house. I have so much fun photographing that I feel sorry for anyone that’s not a Photographer.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Steve McCurry, Sante Dorazio, and Raphael Mazzucco

Its Strange. This spring it will be 25 years since my first published photo. I would like to know, just how the hell did this happen? Not how a young stubborn kid that knows nothing and still gets pu...

The Calligrapher

Parks seem to be a cultural focal point in China. I spent a few hours in Jingshan Park just north of the Forbidden City. Jingshan is a beautifully manicured park with a high hill in the center. At the...

Chasing the light with a V Rod

Its almost funny. The perception with Photographers making great photos is that we Photographers have mountains of expensive photo gear. I hear it all the time from beginning Photographers. Depressed ...

Photographing in the Danger Zone

Its a warm beautiful summer afternoon. The sun is shining and the people gathering here are smiling, laughing, eating and drinking. Children are running around playing happily and loudly. Lovers are ...

Russell

Ok I'll admit it. I'm a summer person. You would think that's strange coming from someone in Seattle where summer last exactly 3.7 days, but maybe that's why I cherish the long warm days of that mysti...

Something Fishy.

Anyone than knows my work knows I don't shoot food. I just don't. It's nothing personal against food. I happen to love food, I have it for dinner all the time, but shooting food commercially is a high...

Disappointment

A few years back I was shopping for a calendar and I came across the work of John Dibbs. Mr. Dibbs is a master of aircraft photography. His calendar of WWII aircraft blew me away and gave me an unreas...

The Master

My  current  avatar was taken at the Summer Palace, just outside of Beijing. I came across this Marshal Artist teaching his pupil. Not wanting to disturb the lesson, I took a ...

Say yes

Saturday morning, I woke up late, at least for me. There is snow on the ground from last night's storm. Mother Nature can't decide to snow, rain or hail. She ends up doing all three. I'm also a little...
