About Me
BONGO’S MUSIC BIO
Robert Pettit, always inspired by music, started playing drums at the age of 10. At 16 he gained his first professional nightclub experience with Beverly Green, playing old standards and jazz. His most intense love though was rock and roll, his young impressionable mind already thoroughly pummeled by the likes of Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham, and Bill Ward. Santana inspired a love for primitive hand drumming, and in his late teens he found himself in Eugene playing street corner rumba on conga drums. This lead to him becoming one of the original members of “Three Finger Jackâ€, a band that also includes alumni Rob Thomas and Curtis Salgalgo.Bongo traveled with the night club act “Nothin’ Fancyâ€, and played extensively in bar bands including “Paradise Alleyâ€, “The Good Time Music String Bandâ€, “The Fuzz Ducksâ€, “The Ultronsâ€, “Delugeâ€, “The Manicsâ€, “The Dukes of Juke", "The Summit Underground", and "The Marcie Curtis Band."Most gigs find Bongo on drumset, but he has maintained a love for primitive drums. His approach on his Indigenous Roots Kit is unique in that he simultaneously plays djun djun, clave and bell parts with his feet, while soloing freely across the top with his hands. Before to Las Vegas, Bongo played drum set for 8 years with “The Summit Underground Blues Band†in the NW. On his Afro-Cuban kit, Bongo has played with "The Looking Wolf Band", and "Miguel Lorado's Tales of the Spoken Word", and "6KILLA", Marcie Curtis, and Ty Curtis.See bongo on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/bongodoggie
