About Me

A new, unofficial theme for the Memphis Tigers was recorded on Tuesday, April 2, 2008 just in time for the Tiger’s final four showing on Saturday, April 5. The song, "Buh Buh Basketball" was originally recorded in 1985 by WRVR DJ, Bill Hickok, and produced by Danny Faust and veteran Memphis musician B.B.Cunningham for the Starburst record label. This was also the year that the Tigers went to the Final Four, led by Keith Lee and coach Dana Kirk. Recorded much earlier in the season than this version, the song was very popular at the time and became the de-facto theme for the ’85 tournament.Immediately following the 2008 "Sweet Sixteen Annihilations," Danny’s son Sean Faust, and nephew Adam Woodard, decided the time was ripe to re-produce the song for the 2008 season. Sean rewrote the lyrics specifically to reflect the team’s presence in this year’s Final Four, and then put together a crackerjack crew of Memphis musicians. Cunningham, well known for his Hombre’s tune "Let it All Hang Out" (and who STILL tours as Jerry Lee Lewis’ bass player), played on both original versions, and is the stand-out deep voice heard chanting the song’s "buh-buh, basketball" mantra (originally sung by Hickok). Additionally, the song features actual U of M crowd noise filmed by Faust at the Memphis-Georgetown game earlier this season (if you listen carefully during the guitar solo, you can hear Chris Douglass Roberts’ name announced over the P.A.). Memphis recording wizard and producer-guru Doug Easley helmed the control board and opened up his new recording studio, which he shares with Cunningham and Faust, to the musicians for the venture. Appropriately, the band has decided to call themselves Jack Oblivian and the Final Four.
