About Me

Brooklyn Country Presents:

I have recently joined up with Jon Itkin and Brooklyn Country legend Uncle Leon to re-launch BrooklynCountry.com. We are doing our best to get in moving and make it the site to visit to find all things country in New York. So if you have a country act or know one, please send them to Brooklyn Country today!.

Brooklyn County Fair

I also run a seasonal country festival called the Brooklyn County Fair with my good friends Lindy Loo and C.W. The Fair is off for the rest of the summer, but I will be booking local country, bluegrass, and Americana acts for our Autumn show. Again, please send great acts my way.

JD & the WWJDs

My first original band. The songs you hear here were recorded with the WWJDs over the last year. Carin Gorrell, Mike Cook, Brian "Toothpick" Young, Gordon Hartin, and I played togteher just over a year. It was really my introduction into the Brooklyn country scene. We played Hank's, Hill Country, Sunny's, Freddy's, and anywhere else we could set up for a spell. But it didn't end badly. We're all still good friends. Mike Cook got really busy with his band Monuments which has been recording a new CD. Brian Young has been leading his own band Smyer which keeps him busy as well. Gordon has been on tour making pedal steel a full-time job. He's seen more states in the last six months than many of us ever see. And Carin and I are still punching away with the songs that brought us together in the first place. She's my rock and motivator. I couldn't do this without her.

Carin's Country Corner

Bandmate Carin Gorrell has taken on a monthly show: Carin's Country Corner on the last Sunday of each month at The Living Room on the Lower East Side. Come on down for an afternoon of classic country hits performed by New York's best pickers. A talents band backs many special guest from the local country scene. See www.BrooklynCountry.com for guests and specials.

The Newton Gang

Last but not least, I front a great country band called The Newton Gang. These are truely some of the best musicians I've ever had the chance to work with. We play a deadly mix of all the classic country one can handle. Tunes by such legends as Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Ernest Tubbs, Webb Pierce, Waylon Jennings, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Terri Gibbs, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Merrle Haggard, Mel Tillis, David Allan Coe, Roger Miller, Townes van Zandt, Robbie Fulks, the Old 97s, Old Crow Medicine Show, Laura Cantrell, and many, many more. Come down and see us sometime. We always get a room dancing and singing along.

Thanx y'all,

JD
