DIALECTIC. a contemporary mixed media arts group [Dialectic -a contradiction of ideas that serves as the determining factor in their interaction.]
Dialectic arts was founded in 2003 by several Coventry based artists, as a forum to exchange ideas, truths and logical arguments. This is in the belief that the most fruitful developments take place at the point where two (or more) different lines of thought intersect.
With the initial intention of staging one contemporary art show, Dialectic has now hosted five vibrant and highly successful mixed media art shows to date. These shows have featured the work of creatives in many fields: painters, ceramics artists, graphic designers, digital artists (both video & audio), graffiti artists, photographers, & performance artists. The group feels that it is this mixed media format, which is its core strength, offering attendees of its shows a wide variety of experience, all within one space.
Dialectic is based around a loose collective structure, a constantly growing, (r)evolving circle of contributors continually adds to, and enriches the hotbed of ideas, the artists continually inspiring each other, & hopefully also those who view their collective works. All contributors have an equal opportunity to present their work at the groups shows, whatever their discipline. Previous shows have featured works by Anna Davies, Paul Blakemore, Nicky Connor, Kyla Craig, Marginal23, Akeel, Ashley Spindler, Mikistrange, Alan Van Wijgerden, Andy Crabtree, Steve Carson, Jo Gane,Sally Hesselworth, Steven Wells, John Mckeown, David Sexton, The Ruthless One and many more.
It is apparent that although the contributing artists hail from many different backgrounds, cultures and disciplines, there is a commonality of thought present, which is providing a fertile breeding ground for new ideas, the pursuit of new directions, & new collaborative efforts.
The Dialectic collective sees itself as an integral part of the burgeoning arts scene in Coventry, and operates under the belief that it is only through continued communication and increased collaboration between artists that we can hope to make this city as vibrant as many of the UKs major cities, and bring its talented artists ever greater and much deserved exposure.
With its sights firmly set on the future, the group has plans for further gallery shows, and is planning a series of ambitious one off events in non- traditional art venues around the city. A national Dialectic tour is also in the early planning stages. For further information please contact the group at
