About Me
"Jerzy"
The entertainment industry is all about who you know and how hard you’re willing to work to get known. It’s called networking; an art that transforms into a sport once it’s mastered, only to grow more intense in competition as you start to make your way.
For Jerzy, the very essence of his lifestyle thrives on this intimate form of communication—combining his passion for music with his knack for being the life of the party. Being on-air in a top three market at the age of 21 didn’t come overnight, nor does it complete even a tenth of his to-do list. Yet it says a lot about who he is, where he’s been, and where he’s going.
It began before the days of CDs (and gasp- iPods); back when Jerzy would hold the mic of a Casio recorder up to a boom box to tape-record dj mixes. After years of going to concerts, listening to hip-hop, browsing record shops for vinyl, and mobile DJing, his innate desire to be in music consumed him.
Jerzy joined the Chicago nightlife scene back when he was still considered to be jail bait, sneaking into Chicago’s hottest clubs, hosting and promoting for various parties. Jerzy signed on as the baby of the Mixmaster Throwdown promotions crew and quickly learned how to balance the demands of his freshman year in college with the chaos of touring clubs and campuses around the Midwest.
Lessons in multi-tasking aside, MMTD also introduced Jerzy to key players at one of Chicago’s top radio stations, B96. With his foot in the door, he began interning during his sophomore year, which then led to a consecutive internship for the launch of the Stylz and Roman night show. The show was (literally) an overnight success, and as it became a permanent fixture at B96, so did Jerzy when he signed on at 21 to be the producer of Stylz and Roman.
The Cinderella story continued that same year after months of demo shopping when Jerzy was given the opportunity to fill in for his first on-air shift on radio—let alone on B96. Not surprisingly, Jerzy has since been given his own show every Sunday from seven to midnight.
So what’s next? In true type-A fashion, Jerzy is craving the one element that radio lacks; the interaction, reaction, and instant gratification that could only come with a live audience. Whether he finds that audience while on the mic at a club or emceeing a party, they should always expect to hear “something different.†Jerzy’s music philosophy is a bit unconventional, never shying away from mixing it up with 80s, dance, and old school hits. Inspired by DJs across the globe—from Los Angeles to NY to Vegas to Chi, Jerzy’s style is based on the unique premise of rock infused hip-hop, good music guaranteed to keep you guessing—and on the floor, all night long.
There are a lot of layers to Jerzy, not just in his job descriptions, but in his character. Chances are if you are with him, he’s learning something from you. Qualifying him as somewhat of a triple threat, his multi-faceted radio, production, and DJ titles are just the building blocks of a resume that reads like a portfolio of someone who has been in the business for decades. He’s still a rookie however, refusing to take himself seriously. “If this is all to end, and I was to do something different,†he said, “I’d be like, fuck, I had the life.â€
