CLICK ON THE ALBUM COVERLoosely formed in Phoenix, Arizona in the fall of 2005, Try Me Bicycle is a trio whose quiet, organic music evokes the feeling of day-tripping and long drives at twilight; the recollective course of the vagabond on holiday. The band emerged from the longtime musical collaboration between singer and guitarist Andrew Naylor and bassist Jay Novak. Working on a core of songs composed by Naylor, the duo was eventually introduced to pianist, Jacob Koller, who would become the bands third steady member. Their graceful songs and effortless performance attracted the attention of musician and producer Michael Krassner, whose talented productions of Califone, Simon Joyner, Patrick Park, and Koufax, made him a perfect fit for the muted moon-soaked music of Try Me Bicycle. In the fall of 2006, the band recorded their debut album, Voicings, which will see a wider, North American re-release in the fall of 2008. At the onset, Voicings whispers of what is to come: a sophisticated blend of modern folk, jazz, and improvisation. Along with the collage of styles, the combination of a warm production and fluid musicianship make their sound that much more intriguing and believable. The twelve songs take one to a hushed and nocturnal soundscape. The stories they tell evoke memories both happy and sad, full of commonplace things whose very everydayness is given value by the beauty in their subtle yet poignant influence on life experience. Pensive and honest, Voicings is an album of promise that not only leaves one feeling at ease but also connected with something bigger.
